RUTLAND, VT. - Rickford Gregory Alger, age 68, passed away on Friday, October 13th 2017 at his home in Rutland, Vt.

Mr. Alger was born on February 27th 1949 in Middlebury, Vt., he was the son of Donald Edward and Betty Lou (Thayer) Alger.

He was a former resident of Brandon, Vt. where he received his early education.

He moved with his family to Rutland, Vt. in 1962.

He was graduated from Rutland High School Class of 1968.

Following graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and served until his honorable discharge in May of 1970.

He married his 2nd wife Darlene Burney of Rutland, Vt. on July 10th 1982.

He had worked at Lindholm Diner for several years and later became a Driver for Rutland News.

A job he held until an automobile accident, while at work, forced his retirement.

He had been an assistant basketball coach at College of St. Joseph for several years.

He was an avid New York Yankee's and Giants fan and enjoyed NASCAR.

He was predeceased by his parents; his father Donald Alger on November 24th 1960 and his mother Betty Alger on July 24th 1996, his first wife; Sharon (Bedard) Alger, one daughter; Lorissa Alger, and one brother; Randall "Randy" Scott Alger Sr. on May 24th 2010.

Arrangements by the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home on 26 Franklin Street in Brandon, Vt.

The graveside committal service and burial with military honors will follow at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon, Vt.
