Verlin E. Alguire, 85, of 50 Urban Drive, peacefully passed away at this home, surrounded by his loving family, Friday evening, October 13, 2017.

Verlin was born May 24, 1932 in Cornwall, Ontario, son of the late Henry and Dorothy J. Eamer Alguire. He graduated from Massena High School in 1950, and on September 13, 1952 he married Marquise Ouimet at St. Mary's Rectory with Rev. Bernard Kellogg officiating. Marquise predeceased him on April 7, 2010.

He first worked for Alcoa, then entered the US Army in 1952, proudly serving until his honorable discharge in 1954, and returned to work at Alcoa until the spring 1959. He then worked for the Massena Police Force before going to work at General Motors. He retired from GM on July 1, 1987 as a Millwright.

Verlin enjoyed carpentry, home repairs, and took great pride in his lawn work and flowers. He loved his music and dancing, and in his younger years he built boats with his father, and enjoyed snowmobiling.

Verlin is survived by his son and three daughters, Danny and Deborah Alguire of Norfolk; Cynthia and Peter Michaud of Norfolk; Diane and Clifford Boice of Louisville; and Julie and John Campbell of Waddington; his companion Margaret "Peg" Houle of Massena; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his wife Marquise, Verlin was predeceased by a son, Lesley R. Alguire on October 27, 2005; two grandsons, baby Kevin Alguire on June 7, 1982 and Jonathan Alguire on March 17, 2017; five brothers, Ralph, David, Roger, Carl and Ross Alguire; and two sisters, Erma Santamont and Norma Briggs.

Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena on Tuesday from 3-6:00 PM where a funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM with Rev. Joel T. Grigg officiating. Burial will be held privately at Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
