Vietnam Veteran Special Forces Soldier Ltc. Darman Place was a native of Rossville, Ga., and a resident of Cleburne County for 25 years. He was in the United States Army for 25 years and was in the 5th Special Forces Unit during Vietnam Conflict. After he retired from the Army, he worked in the Aerospace Program. He then retired to his farm in Heflin and raised beef cattle. Survivors include his wife, Wanda R. Place, of Heflin; daughter, Darvon P. Wallace, of Heflin; son, Major Darman Place, Jr., R.I.; and one sister, Cora Stubblefield. Pallbearers were David Lumpkin, David Hewitt, Denny Beene, Allen Walker, Machael Salinas and Larry Thompson.
He died at Trinity Medical Center. Dryden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony Mahathy and Rev. Harold Payne officiating. Burial followed at Crumley's Chapel Cemetery in Ranburne.
