Charles August Beardsley, 81 of Emporia, died Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the University Of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Charles was born September 10, 1936 in Emporia, the son of Arthur Virgil and Neva Mae (Motzkus) Beardsley. After high school Charles worked construction and helped in the building of the Kansas Turnpike. He then joined the US Army. After being discharged from the Army, Charles received his Bachelor’s degree from Columbus College in Columbus, Georgia. He then went to work for the Dolly Madison Bakeries as a Chief Engineer working in Emporia, Columbus, and Los Angeles, California. Before his retirement in 2002, Charles was the Project Engineer and traveled all over the country. Charles was a member of the Sardis Congregational Church, Emporia Masonic Lodge #12 A.F. & A.M., Merriam Chapter #14, Order of the Eastern Star. He enjoyed Traveling, Fishing, and working in his yard.

Charles married Joyce Watts on January 22, 1956 at the Sardis Congregational Church south of Emporia. She survives of the home. Other survivors include sons Charles August Beardsley, Jr. and wife Joanne of Brunswick, Maryland, Curtis Allan Beardsley and wife Penny of Osage City, Kansas, Arthur Daniel Beardsley of Emporia, son-in-law Randy Mason of Emporia, 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Julia Mason, brothers Virgil Beardsley and Floyd Beardsley, sisters Barbara Zaring, Maxine Holmes, and Anita Ellis.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, October 16, 2017 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. Pastor Gary Goozen of the Sardis Congregational Church will be officiating. The family will received friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery south of Emporia. Military Honors by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
