Mrs. Ruth Amelia Sowers Biggs, age 94, of Frederick Maryland died, Friday October 13, 2017, peacefully at home in the care of her family. Born November 27, 1922 in Middletown Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Harry Samuel Sowers and Anna Mary Sowers. She was the wife of Charles Franklin Biggs for 63 years. Mrs. Biggs operated a family day care home for over 30 years.
Prior to her death, she was the oldest charter member of the South End Baptist Church, Frederick Maryland. She served as a Sunday school teacher for preschool children for 25 years. She also served on the Baptism and Communion Committee, as well as the kitchen committee. She was a member of the adult choir and a member of the Sisters in Christ Sunday School Class.
Surviving her upon her death are four children: Lois J. Roberts of Frederick Maryland: Steven E Biggs and wife Paula of Middletown Maryland, Tanya I. Jensen and husband Richard of Thurmont Maryland and Dale F Biggs and wife Vickie of Frederick Maryland. She is also survived by her sister Evelyn Flanagan and husband Felix, of Frederick MD., 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Biggs is predeceased by her husband, Charles Franklin Biggs, two brothers: William Sowers, Glenn Sowers, and three sisters: Frances Fauble, Mary Danner and Dottie Wean. She is also predeceased by one great grandson, Zachary Wilcom.
The family will receive friends and family from 2-4 and 7-9, October 15, 2017 at South End Baptist Church, 506 Carrollton Dr., Frederick MD. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 o'clock p.m., October 16, 2017, at South End Baptist Church. The Rev. Jim McBride, Rev. Ken Stalls and Rev. Mike Cooper will officiate.
In lieu of flowers the family request expressions of sympathy are made by a memorial contribution to Hospice of Frederick County, PO Box 1799, Frederick, Maryland 21702.
