Wife of James Oscar Hendrickson
Mother to Ruby Jean.
Daughter of Joe and Sarah Minerva McCool Schell.

OBITUARY: GRETCHEN EDRA SCHELL HENDRICKSON LAUGHLIN -Gretchen peacefully left this world Sunday, October 12, 2003, in Rogers, Arkansas after a long illness. She lived 94 years. She was born to Joe Schell and Sarah Minerva McCool on February 6, 1909 in McDonald County, Missouri. She had one brother, Clive Schell who preceded her in death. She grew up in Southwest Missouri and married James Oscar Hendrickson on January 8, 1926. To this union, several children were born, but only one survived infancy. She survived her husband, Oscar to whom she was married for forty-six years. Most of her life she lived in McDonald County, Missouri. She was a successful businesswoman and farmer, and through her determination, persistence and hard work, she escaped the poverty and hard times that were the lot of so many from that era and locale, as she built a successful poultry farm. Although her life contained times of great sorrow, many hard times and years of hard work, she never lost her positive attitude and continued to find joy in life. She said that there were many times in her life that she had "pulled herself up by her boot straps," but as she said this she would smile. In her later years, she married a second time to Aaron Laughlin, and they spent most of their retirement years together. They lived in Pea Ridge, Arkansas. She was known as a good and loyal friend, a loving wife, aunt, mother, step-mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and she will be missed by many. Her survivors include her daughter, Ruby Jean Jensen, one (adopted) granddaughter, Gayle Foster, two great grandsons, several nieces and nephews, and others. Grave side services will be conducted by Alan Sink, her great-nephew, on Wednesday October 15, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Pea Ridge Cemetery.
