Wife of James Washington Trotter, married 6/27/1854

The following information was contributed by #47287351.

Some have claimed her name is Mary B McCormick. However, documentation proving this has yet to be made public. Although, Polly is considered to be a nickname for Mary, that isn't always the case. She is documented in all the census records as Polly and her death certificate index record gives her name as Polly Trotter. Father: Wm McCormick born South Carolina. Mother: Nancy McCracken born South Carolina. Spouse: J.W. Trotter.

Per the book "History of Wayne and Clay Counties, Illinois" Published 1884, page. 89 there is a listing of a marriage between William McCormick and Nancy McCracken 26 January 1824, Wayne County, Illinois.

Also on pages 137-138 in the Biographical Sketch of James W. Trotter it states "He married POLLY McCormick, a daughter of William McCormick, one of Wayne County's first settlers, who assisted in the original surveying of it."

It is believed her middle name may be Bratton, but this also is unproven.
