Robert "Bob" Leroy Johnson, 78

Robert "Bob" Leroy Johnson, 78, of Nickerson, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, in the Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle. Visitation will be Monday, May 20, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery.

Robert "Bob" Leroy Johnson was born February 20, 1935, in Fremont to Raymond and Edna (Ruwe) Johnson.

He graduated from Fremont High School in 1952.

He served in the Army Reserve and in many organizations including the Nickerson Co-op Board, Nickerson Lions Club and the church council of Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle.

On June 12, 1960, he married Glee Harms at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairmont, Minn., on the same date as the centennial celebration of Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle.

He drove truck for Freeman Transfer and Duane Pawling Transfer, and also farmed in rural Washington County for more than 60 years.

Mr. Johnson enjoyed racing cars in Arlington in the late 1950s. He liked John Deere, Fords, driving trucks, fishing (especially with his grandchildren), playing cards and farming. He loved his girls and his grandchildren.

He rarely missed having coffee with his friends in Nickerson. He had many close friends. In the fall of 2010 when he was hospitalized after a farming accident, his friends rallied to help him and his son-in-law harvest their crops. The family will always be thankful for that generosity.

He was a good and generous husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Glee; two daughters and their husbands, Barb and Joe McCain of Avon Lake, Ohio, and Merry and Doug Muhsman of Nickerson; four grandchildren, John Robert Korves, Kimberly Kocel (who shared a birthday with him), Nicholas Kocel and Austin Muhsman; many close friends, in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to the Salem Lutheran Church at Fontanelle Building Fund.
