Robert was the son of Robert Orr Keeney and Anna Carrick Keeney, who preceded him in death. He was a First Lieutenant in the US Army during World War II under the command of General George S. Patton. He served from North Africa to Italy and pushed on to France, where he participated in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy. He was awarded three Bronze Stars and was employed by Mathies Coal Mine.

He was survived by his wife, Mary Etta Neill Keeney of Finleyville, a son, Robert G. Keeney (Sally) and a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Morris (Donald) also of Finleyville ,four granddaughters and a grandson He was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Finleyville.
