Glennis Wathen Ballard, 87, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at Memorial Hospital of Colorado Springs, Colo. Born Dec. 14, 1929, near Riddle in Crawford County, he was the son of the late Jerry and Geraldine Brandebourg Ballard. He graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1949 and, on Feb. 17, 1950, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He worked in the field of communications and for a number of years worked at NORAD. While in the Air Force, he received a number of degrees and continued college after his retirement as a master sergeant from the Air Force in 1974. After retirement from the military, he worked in civil service at Fort Carson as a supervisor of the data center until his secondary retirement. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wallace. Survivors include his wife, Anna; four daughters, Debra, Gail, Glenna and Tammy; a sister, Peggy Ballard Chanley; a brother, Dennis Ballard; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
