GOLCONDA, Ill. - Services for Fred Bates, 93, of Golconda will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Aly Funeral Home of Golconda with J. Kie Bowman officiating. Burial will be in Walterburg Cemetery.
He died Thursday at Hardin County General Hospital in Rosiclare.
He is survived by four daughters, Wanda Bowman and Alice Swinford, both of Golconda, Helen Platt of Plato Center, and Linda Mennerick of Apache Junction, Ariz.; two sisters, Emma Leland and Mildred Goodin; a brother, D. Bates; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Elder Bates; a grandson, Todd Waterman; a sister, and 10 brothers. His parents were Douglas and Alpha Josephine Volle Bates.
