Rebecca Jane Skaggs was the daughter of James Skaggs and his second wife Catherine Young (b. 1816), dau of Ezekiel Young. She married William Jasper Bales in Kentucky Town, Texas in 1878. Shortly after the birth of their third child, a baby girl, the family moved back to the farm of Wm. Jasper Bales parents, James and Sarah (Robertson) Bales. Sara Jane sickened and died, followed a few months later by the death of her infant girl. They were both buried in the Bales/Roark cemetery (which contained only the graves of Betty Powell, David Bales and a few others at the time). Their headstones have been lost to the ages. My grandfather James Lazarus Bales remembers climbing the hill behind his grandparents home following behind his mother's casket. He was five years old at the time and his sister Catherine was four years old. Anneville was called "Chinkapin Rough" at that time.
