Rev. Thomas Richard Hoffmann, age 63 of Keyesport, passed away at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville on Sunday, October 8, 2017.
Tom was born on May 5, 1954, in Highland, Illinois, the son of Richard D. and Ruth F. (Barbey) Hoffmann. He married Diana Enloe on December 7, 1974, at the Greenville First Christian Church and she survives in Keyesport.
In addition to his wife Diana, Rev. Hoffmann is also survived by his daughters – Jamie Baum and husband David of Greenville and Kristen Schmitt and husband Mark of Keyesport; 6 grandchildren – Grace, Leona, Charlie, and Neil Baum and Hunter and Mason Schmitt; his sister – Donna Turley and husband Bruce of Greenville; and his in-laws – Harry D. and Betty L. Enloe of Keyesport. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Rev. Hoffmann began farming with his father at the age of 8 and continued farming until 2003. He served as the pastor at the Pocahontas First Baptist Church for 20 years and he had been attending the Tamalco Christian Church. In addition to being a farmer and a pastor, Tom was active with Bond County EMS. He began as a medical technician, became a paramedic, and later served as the EMS Manager of Ambulance Services. He retired from Bond County EMS as the EMS Systems Coordinator. Tom was also a paramedic instructor at Kaskaskia College. Rev. Hoffmann served on the Keyesport Fire Protection District as a firefighter for 40 years, including 20 years as Fire Chief. He was an avid outdoorsman who belonged to the N.R.A. and loved to fish and hunt. Tom also served as the president of the Campground Cemetery Association.
Funeral services honoring the life of Rev. Thomas R. Hoffmann will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at the Campground Cumberland Presbyterian Church south of Greenville. Interment will follow at Campground Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017, from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle, and on Saturday, October 14, 2017, from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M. at Campground Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Rev. Hoffmann are suggested to the Campground Cemetery Association, Tamalco Christian Church, or to Campground Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Memorial donations will be accepted at Zieren Funeral Home.
