Age 81, son of the late Alexander and Goldie Mellott Brant.

He was raised and educated in Johnstown and as a young man served in the Pacific as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his discharge he graduated from Indiana State University of Pennsylvania where he was captain of the football team. He then received his master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He worked as a math teacher, first in Union City and then for the Corry Area School District. He also coached football and basketball in both school districts for many years. In the late 1960s he became the Corry Area High School principal. He remained in this position for more than 15 years until his retirement in 1983. He was a member and eucharistic minister at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Corry. He liked to golf and travel.

Five sisters and five brothers died previously.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Eileen Graham Brant, whom he married Aug. 17, 1952, in Corry; three daughters, Karen Wachsman and her husband, Jim, of Steamboat Springs, Colo., Mary Lee Jackson and her husband, Mike, of Erie, and Barb McDermott and her husband, Dan, of Harrisburg; two sons, Rusty Brant and his wife, Kris, of Dallas, Texas, and John Brant of Orlando, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery.
