Roman Catholic Religious Leader. The Fifth Archbishop of New York, he was ordained a priest in New York City on September 8, 1892. He was ordained a bishop on October 28, 1914. On March 10, 1919, he became the fifth Archbishop of New York. On March 24, 1924 he was elevated to Cardinal.
