Vernetta J. Eilers, age 87, of New Era, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017 in Whitehall. She was born February 2, 1930 in Hart to Louis and Arlie (Weaver) Schaner.
Vernetta was raised in Hart. She attended beauty school in Muskegon and moved to Hesperia where she operated a beauty shop. Vernetta married Francis L. Eilers on November 30, 1963. They lived on the family farm in Claybanks Township. She operated a beauty shop out of her home. Mrs. Eilers enjoyed baking and making wedding and graduation cakes. She was preceded in death by Francis on June 11, 2003.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Chris (Brenda) Eilers; granddaughters, Christine, Ashley, and Laura Eilers; and her sister, Marie Herrygers. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Lester and Edwin Schaner.
Visitation is Friday, May 5th, Twelve Noon with the funeral service to follow at 1 pm at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby with Father Peter Omogo officiating.
