Hugh Cecil Bowman


Hugh Cecil Bowman, age 82, of Marion, N.C. died Friday, February 4, 2000, at his residence.

Born in Alexander County to the late Troy and Claudia Mae Coffey Bowman.

He was a cabinet maker and served in the U.S. Army in WWII. He was a member of Gideons International for many years and he was a member of Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and a Deacon. He loved and supported his church dearly and also supported mission work throughout the world.

Surviving are his wife, Elsie Holland Bowman of the home; three sisters, Frances Russell, Lucille Barger, and Christine Crafton, all of Hickory; a step-daughter, Brenda Gravett of Marion; step-granddaughter, Angela Gilland of Marion; step-great grandchildren, Angel & April Gilland of Marion.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Leo Bowman.

The funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 6, 2000 at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church.

Rev. John Setchfield officiated and burial followed in Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church Cemetery.
