LANCASTER—Cecil L. Allen died Sept. 27, 2017, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, Wis., of a rare form of leukemia. He was born on April 17, 1948, to Ernest Evan Allen and Norma Allen in McLeansboro, Ill.

Cecil was never without a kind word, a humorous line, a hug, or a $20 bill for anyone who needed it. Always an artist, he chose careers that allowed him to create. He worked as a machinist at Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 17 years. He developed the Machine Tool program at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College and taught there for 29 years, where he shared his wisdom, humor, and compassion with hundreds of students — many of whom he remained in contact with after retirement. He continued creating in retirement with mesquite wood projects that demonstrated his distinctive style and eye for beauty. His love of machines carried over to riding motorcycles with friends and family. He had a passion for music and could name song titles from his favorite genres on the first note. Cecil’s great sense of humor blessed all who knew him, even in the hospital. Cecil served his country with a tour of duty in the U.S. Army in Saigon and MyTho during the Vietnam War.
