Richard Garlitz, aged 56, native of Avilton, Garrett county, Md., died yesterday at 11 a.m., at the home of his step-children, Mrs. Henry Schaub and Wilmoth Francis Garlitz, West Main street, with whom he resided, following a long illness. Mr. Garlitz, the son of Samuel and Isabelle Garlitz, came to Lonaconing 25 years ago. He engaged in coal mining until October 20, 1930, when he was injured beneath a rock fall in a local mine. One week later he was stricken with paralysis and since that time had been bedfast. He suffered a third stroke Saturday last. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He is survived by the following stepchildren: Lon L., Avilton, Harry E., Wheeling; Edgar A., Ambridge, Pa.; Mrs. Irvin McKenzie, Lonaconing; Joseph Garlitz, Wheeling, and Wilmoth Francis Garlitz, and Mrs. Henry Schaub, Lonaconing, and five sisters, Mrs. George Beeman, Lonaconing; Mrs. George Brown, Avilton; Mrs. Charles Wagner, Salisbury, Pa.; Mrs. Thomas Tucker, Midlothian, and Mrs. Frank Meyers, Moscow, this county. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with interment in St. Anne's cemetery, Avilton. The Cumberland Evening Times, July 12, 1932
