John Joe Aycock "Johnny Lightning", age 72, of East Prairie, died September 17, 2017 at Miner Nursing Center in Miner.

Born June 19, 1945 in Charleston, to the late Clarence Son and Anna Ruth (McCarty) Countess, he was a member of Elm Street Baptist Church in Charleston and had worked as a truck driver and also in farming before retiring.

On November 11, 1972 he married Billie Jane (Russell) Aycock; she preceded him in death December 17, 2015.

One brother, Danny Joe Countess, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include three daughters, Marcie Tatum and Katie Navarro both of East Prairie, and Becky Mathis of Charleston; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Jane Aycock of East Prairie; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Cheri Triplett.


Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at Full Gospel Church in East Prairie, with Bro. Mike Johnson, officiating.

Interment will follow at the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Shelby Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Aycock, Terry Humphrey, Nathan Humphrey, Brandon Aycock, Jason Aycock and Damion Killion.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Turner, Daniel Aycock, Donald Humphrey, Billy Aycock and Charlie Aycock.
