"Clarion-Ledger" Jackson, Mississippi Tuesday, January 25, 1955 J. Frank Berry, 45, Dies Monday Night Jackson Fireman Collapsed On Duty J. Frank Berry, 45, a lieutenant with the Jackson Fire Department died early Monday night at the Baptist Hospital. He collapsed while fighting a fire on North State Street early Sunday morning. A native of Simpson County, Berry had resided in Jackson for the past 18 years. He had been on the fire department for 12 years and made his home at 508 Broad Street. He was a member of the Pearl Lodge No. 23 and of the Braxton Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Ina Lois Edmondson Berry; his mother, Mrs. R. S. Berry, Braxton; three sisters, Mrs. J. E. Gates of Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Eva Berry Gates and Mrs. Joe Cox, both of Braxton; and two nieces and two nephews. Funeral services will be held from the Wright and Ferguson Chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Roy C. Clark, pastor of the Capitol Street Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Up until a month ago, Berry and E. H. Pettigrew, both Jackson firemen, lived in opposite sides of a duplex house at 349 Decell St. They had lived there for two years. Monday morning, Pettigrew died of Berry collapsed while on duty and died Monday evening.
