Robert Lee Halsan, 81, passed away in Portland on January 8th, 2014, after a long illness. Robert was born October 20, 1932 in Astoria, Oregon, where he graduated from Astoria High School. He later attended Willamette University and received a degree in biology.

After serving in the Armed Forces in the early fifties, he returned to Astoria. He worked at the Tongue Point Job Corps center as a marine small-engine repair instructor, and in the 1960s, he joined the workforce at the Crown Zellerbach Wauna mill, where he worked until retirement. He spent his retirement fishing and working on his many home-improvement projects.

Robert is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gladys Ann; a daughter, Dena; a son, Mark; and grandchildren Madison and Thomas IV. At his request there will be no memorial. His ashes were scattered at Big Creek in Knappa, his favorite fishing spot.
