David McCain was born the son of William and Sarah Williams McCain in Ohio on June 12, 1832.

On January 25, 1855, David McKain and Hannah Acton were married by Charly Bruner (either Justice of the Peace or minister) in Jackson County, IN. The license and certificate are recorded in Jackson marriages 1849 - 1856 Volume C.

In the 1860 Federal census, Davis and Hannah McCain were living in Salt Creek, Jackson county, IN, with their children Mary E aged 4 years; Ghilson P aged 2 years; and Lucy Ann aged 4 months; along with John C Lacy, aged 22.

On July 1, 1863, David McCain registered for the draft in Jackson County, listed as a farmer, but was apparently not drafted into the Army.

David and Hannah McCain were living in Salt Creek, Jackson county, IN in the 1870 federal census. The had children: daughter M.E. McCain born about 1856 aged 14
son S.P. McCain born about 1858 aged 12
daughter L.A. McCain born about 1860 aged 10
daughter S.O. McCain born about 1862 aged 8
daughter E.D. McCain born about 1864 aged 6

In the 1880 Federal census, David and Hannah McCain were still living in Salt Creek, Jackson county, IN. Children living with them were: Lucy McCain aged 20; William McCain aged 10; and Adaline McCain aged 4.

David and Hannah McCain were living in Ohio township, Bartholomew County, IN, in the 1900 Federal census. All of their children were now gone.

In the 1910 Federal census, David and Hannah McCain were living in Ohio township, Bartholomew county, IN. David was 77 and Hannah was 72.

On April 19, 1912, David McCain died and was buried in the Ohio Chapel Cemetery, Bartholomew County. His widow Hannah Acton McCain survived him.

There was a mention in the April 25, 1912 edition of the Columbus, IN, Republic, page 8:

David McCain, aged about 80 years, died at his home at Leander Sprague's ar., Friday, and was buried at Ohio Chapel Sunday; Rev. Weekley and Re. Reynolds officiated.
