James Bennett

Milton - James Edward Bennett, 76, of Milton died Saturday morning in a hospital at Kirksville, Mo., where he had been for 10 days.

He was born Oct. 10, 1886, near Bonaparte, the son of George Wesley and Sarah Miller Bennett. He farmed in Van Buren County, moving to Milton two years ago. He was a member of Cantril Christian Church.

On June 20, 1907, he married Amelia Emma Mack. She died July 24, 1958. He married May Kerr on April 6, 1960. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Elmer Bennett of Holcomb, Kan., and Dale Bennett of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy McElroy of Clarinda and Mrs. Emma Harkness of Tunas, Mo.; one brother, Minor Bennett of Scott City, Kan.; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Cantril Christian Church with Elder Herbert Shaw officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery at Cantril. The body is at the Wellborn Funeral Home in Milton.
