Willis James Sanders of Camarillo, beloved husband of Marion G. Sanders, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2007, at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo, from complications of emphysema.

Willis was born on his grandpa Sanders' farm outside of Toledo, Ohio, to Wilbert and Cecil Sanders. He grew up in Bowling Green, Ohio. He worked as the classified ads manager on the Bowling Green Sentinel Tribune.

He and Marion were married in Toledo on Sept. 6, 1941. When war was declared, he joined the U.S. Navy and served from 1942 to the fall of 1945; part of the time he was in Corona, Calif., at a naval hospital. This is the reason for their love of California. He served on small aircraft carriers as a chief pharmacist mate. After the war, he returned to Toledo and was hired by the DeVilbiss Co. (medical products division). They moved to west Los Angeles, where he covered the seven western states for 20 years, returning to Toledo as the national sales manager. Upon retirement, they returned to California to enjoy their golden years in Leisure Village, Camarillo. Willis finally found the time to enjoy the game of golf.

He leaves a loving family: his wife of 66 years, Marion; daughters, Diana (husband Douglas) Warneke of Chatsworth, Cindy (husband Tim) Fate of Lambertville, Mich.; brother Charles (wife Dorothy) of Lakeland, Fla.; grandchildren, Tina Santoro, Christopher (wife Laura), Eff, Kenneth Eff (U.S. Navy); step-grandson, Dustin Fate; great-grandchildren, Justin Milligan, Austin and Alexis Eff; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Willis was preceded in death by his parents and brother Edsel.

We want to thank the staff of the intensive care department of Pleasant Valley Hospital for their compassionate care. A special thank you to the Hospice of Camarillo and Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to Mount Cross Lutheran Church, 102 Camino Esplendido, Camarillo, CA 93010; Camarillo Hospice or Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice.

A service of remembrance will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4, at Mount Cross Lutheran Church, 102 Camino Esplendido, Camarillo.
