Oscar E. Alford, 72, Dies; Rites In West Monroe

Funeral services for Oscar E. Alford, 72, of Winnfield were held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kilpatrick's Funeral Home of West Monroe with the Rev. Calvin Phelps officiating, assisted by the Rev. Joe Mongle. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery.

Mr. Alford died Sunday, December 3, 1972 in a local hospital following a long illness. He was a retired life insurance and real estate salesman for A. J. Lester Co. A native of McComb, Miss., he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield, a Mason, and a Shriner, and a member of the Knights of Pythias.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Oscar E. Alford of Winnfield; one son, Alton Thompson of Winnfield; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas R. Crosby of Cocoa, Fla.,and Mrs. Gloria Godbee of Valdosta, Ga.; two brothers, Sam Alford and Tom Alford, both of McComb, Miss.; two sisters, Miss Smythe Alford and Mrs. Lanelle Pottroff, both of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Ray Davis, C. E. Pickering, Ed Grigg, Marvin Haley, Rodney Haley, and Alvin Haley
