Germantown, TN - Dorothy Julia Allen passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Brookdale Dogwood Creek in Germantown, Tennessee. She was born on June 6, 1929 in Hudson, Massachusetts, to Manuel and Rose Santos, who emigrated to the United States from Portugal as children. Dorothy was a devoted mother and wife and lived her life loving and nourishing those around her. She received a degree in Nursing from Massachusetts General and worked at Marlboro Hospital in Marlboro, Massachusetts until she joined the Navy Nurse Corps and served at Camp Lejenue, North Carolina, where she received the National Defense Service Ribbon. Later in life, Dorothy pursued her nursing career at St. Francis, Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. While in the Navy, she met William B. Allen, a Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. Dorothy and Bill married in 1952. Dorothy had a love of art and painted all her life. In 1987, she received the degree of Bachelors of Fine Art from Memphis College of Art. She was a devoted Catholic and was active in the local parishes. Dorothy is survived by her four sons, William Allen, Jr., Richard Allen, James Allen, John Allen; her eight grandchildren, and her brother, Richard Santos. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 16 at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home, with a visitation one hour prior, also at Memorial Park.
