Marcella was the daughter of Bright Herring Wiggins b. 1808 in North Carolina and wife Cnicy S. She was born in Morgan County, Alabama. She had siblings William T., Nancy, James L., Mary Ann and Josephine. Their father died in Lawrence County, Alabama before the end of 1849 and mother died soon after. The Wiggins grandmother took them in and they were all in Wiggins households in Morgan County in 1850. Their grandmother Susanna Lassiter Wiggins was their guardian and applied for administrator of what was left of the family possessions.
All of Marcella's siblings were dead before 1870.
