Hubert Lyle Evensen, 75, of Bigfork died Saturday, April 25, 1998, in Northern Itasca Health Care Center, Bigfork after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 13, 1922, in Grand Rapids, to Peter and Florence (Lessard) Evensen.

On Oct. 16, 1943, he married Ethel Nelson. He was a lifelong resident of Bigfork. From 1939-1942, he co-operated the Evensen Brothers Bakery. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. After the service he held a variety of jobs. In 1949, Hubert went to work for the North Itasca Electric Co-op. He became line superintendent in 1952 and worked up to general manager of the co-op in 1956. Hubert organized EZTV, bringing quality television reception to the area in 1962. The Evensen substation of Alvwood, Minn., was dedicated to him after his retirement in 1985.

He attended the Bigfork First Presbyterian Church, was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Duluth, Chippewa Lodge 275 A.F.& A.M. of Deer River and Aad Temple Shrine. He was a member of the Hibbing Lodge of Perfection and a past member of the American Legion Post of Effie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Florence Evensen, and a brother, Wendell.

Hubert is survived by his wife, Ethel; daughters: Sandy (Ron) Randall, Pam (Jim) McKenzie, and Vicki (Jack) Hagen; grandchildren: Kara Myhrer, Mandy Severson, Matthew McKenzie, Josh Hagen, and Abby Hagen; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Clarice Gustafson; two brothers: Wayne, and Tom; and many wonderful friends.
