Elionor Black 1741–1827 (Elionor's maiden name has not been determined.)

(Mary was actually born in what was then known as Lincoln County, VA. Madison County, Kentucky did not come into existance until August 22, 1786.)

James Black died at his home on September 22, 1789, as recorded in a family bible held by his son William. (See " Natalie K. Black; Pioneer Preacher, Descendants to 1980 of the Rev. Samuel Black (1700-1770) of Pennnsylvania and Albemarle County, Virginia; privately printed, Williams Printing Company, Nashville, Tenn., 1981)

Black passed intestate. A long and protracted disbursement of property ensued. In Will Book "A" of the Madison County KY court records, an Inventory and Appraisement of his estate was ordered and recorded in November, 1790. John Black, his eldest son, was named administrator.

"Robert, James, Alexander, Mary, David and Isaac Black, orphans of James Black, deceased, with the approbation of the Court, made choice of John Black for their guardian who together with David Gass his security entered into and acknowledged their bond in penalty of 500 L for securing said orphans' estate." (David Gass would later be Mary's father-in-law as his son, David Gass, wedded Mary in 1800. See featured document.)

Mary married David Gass, son of the above mentioned David Gass, in Madison Co., KY on April 9, 1800. According to author Natalie K. Black, Mary and David remained in Madison County probably until the mid 1830s. Mary died in Audrain Co, MO sometime between 1833-40.
