BLUE MOUNTAIN - Rev. J. L. Pip-kin, 83, founding minister and senior pastor of Blue Mountain Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, died Friday of heart failure at Baptist Memorial Hospital of Union County in New Albany. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Blue Mountain Church of the Lord Jesus Christ with burial in the church cemetery.
Holly Springs Funeral Home has charge. He was a pastor for 45 years and served as secretary and treasurer of Mississippi Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ for 41 years. He organized and operated the Apostolic Publishing House for 14 years and was a founder of Blue Mountain Children's Home, having served as its administrator for 14 years. He served on the Foreign Missions Board and the Apostolic College Board in Memphis for several years, served as a colonel on the stalf of two Mississippi governors and was a former supervisor of Marshall County District 5.
He had also been an agent for American Family Life Insurance Co. for about 20 years. Rev. Pipkin, the husband of Sidney Ash Pipkin, also leaves two daughters, Carolyn Schmidt of Memphis and Volene Taylor of Blue Moun-tain; a son, Jimmy Allen Pipkin of Hickory Flat, 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Blue Mountain or Blue Mountain Children's Home.
