Alice Carol O'Neill, age 74, passed away of heart failure on September 10, 2017 in California.

She was born in Des Moines, Iowa on October 18, 1942.

VIDEO INTERVIEW of Alice, July 15, 1989, in Page, Arizona for 1989 PHS Reunion.

"Page Pioneer" Alice Carol O'Neill, Page High School Class of 1960, came to "America's Last Frontier"--Page, Arizona, with her parents, Larry and Bernice O'Neill, Sr., and her younger brother, Larry O'Neill, Jr. '63.

Alice and her family came to Page in August 1958 from Brawley, California in a 13 ft. travel trailer, which was parked in Earl Brothers' chainlink fenced area next to Babbitt Brothers Trading Company (grocery store) "complex" (a metal building built by Earl Brothers).

Alice's parents owned/operated O'Neill's Richfield gas station in Page. Alice and her brother both worked at this historic gas station "before girls worked at gas stations".

Alice had two older sisters who did not move to Page with them in 1958. Her sister, Janet Fudala of Seattle, survives her; her sister, Judith Mary O'Neill, is buried in Page Cemetery in the same space with her father, Larry O'Neill, Sr.

Alice grew up in the Southwest in the towns of Tucson, Brawley as well as Page. Alice graduated from Page High School in 1960 and earned a BS in Education from Northern Arizona University in 1964.

At age 21, Alice was married in Page to Reynold Charles "Rey" Huck (age 28, born Sept 8, 1935) from May 3, 1964 to May 1977, Sacramento, CA. Alice didn't realize I was a Yooper, then shared: "My ex (Rey Huck-engineer for USBR , inspector for the generator part of the dam) graduated from Michigan Tech in Houghton, MI in da U.P." The Hucks relocated to Sacramento, California where Alice embarked on a 33-year career in Education. At Rio Americano High School, Alice originated and taught the popular Decorative Arts class through which she shared her creative and artistic abilities by teaching students leather work, stained glass, and needlework, among other crafts. Alice earned two Masters Degrees, one in secondary education from the University of San Francisco in 1978 and the other in counseling and social work from California State University Sacramento in 1985 and became a high school counselor. She did general counseling and college planning at Rio Del Sol, El Camino Fundamental, and San Juan High Schools. Alice fondly referred to her students as “her kids” and was always very happy when she ran into former students after their graduation.

Throughout her life, Alice pursued many interests and passions, including motor homing around the USA, boating in the Sacramento Delta, travel (she vacationed in Australia, etc.), Porsche 356 Club, and quilting.

VIDEO of Alice laughing, but backlit and in shadow, July 1989, in Wahweap, Arizona at GCNRA Picnic Shelters for 1989 PHS Reunion, while I was also interviewing "Page Pioneer" Denney Carpenter, husband of Virginia Gage '60, seated to her right.

Alice's Story on Classmates.com
"I spent 35 years in High School (with the large desk) as a teacher and a counselor. I have retired.
I have two grown children--Brian and Karen Huck.
After Rey Huck and I split up, I reclaimed by own name so am Alice O'Neill all over again.
I live east of Sacramento, CA in a beautiful home my partner, Larry Boyd, and I built overlooking Folsom Lake.
Larry is still working, so our traveling is still in spurts rather than extended stays.
We have just purchased a motor boat and are learning how to maneuver it in and out of docks, parking places, etc. With two motors, it is more involved that we had anticipated. New fun and games. You folks living on Lake Powell learned these things many years ago.
Thanks for reading. Alice"

She is survived and greatly missed by her older sister, Janet Fudala of Seattle, and younger brother, Lawrence "Larry" O'Neill '63, of San Antonio; her children, Brian Francis Huck of Sacramento and Karen Michelle Huck of Champaign, IL; and her life partner of 40 years, Larry "Lar" Boyd of Citrus Heights; plus numerous friends and thousands of students she taught and counseled.

Friends, faculty and students are invited to join Alice’s family to celebrate Alice’s life on Saturday September 23, 2017. Drop in from 2 pm - 5 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento, 2425 Sierra Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95825. Bright clothing and Aloha attire is encouraged.
