Jackson, MS

Mr. John Lynwood Witt, of Jackson, MS, passed away on Sunday, Sept 10, 2017, at Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland, MS. He was born July 7, 1922, in Ripley, MS, to Bonnie Jewel and Laura Carmichael Witt.

He served in the U.S. Navy, during World War II and was stationed aboard the U.S. Doyen in the South Pacific. Upon completion of his military service, he returned home to attend college. After academics, he went on to be employed with the Coca-Cola Company for several years.

Later, he joined with Kraft Foods, Incorporated where he would be gainfully employed until retirement in 1987. He always said every day of retirement was like Christmas! Mr. Witt had a deep passion for the game of Golf and was a proud member of the Mississippi Senior Golf Association. He loved his family, his friends and his community. He was an active member of the Watt Carter Masonic Lodge and also of the Wahabi Shriners of Jackson, MS.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, his first wife, Ruth Prine Witt and his step-son, Barry Blaine.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Merle Blaine Witt, son Wayne Witt (Forcia) of Winter Springs, FL, daughter-in-law, Teresa Blaine (widow of step-son, Barry Blaine), and step-son, Ronald Blaine (June), of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by eight loving grandchildren, and ten wonderful great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM September 13, 2017, at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS and services will follow at 2:00 PM. Burial will take place at Jessamine Cemetery in Ridgeland, MS.
