Son of Marcus "Mack" & Adeline Teague Chastain; husband of Camely Reid Chastain.

His obituary stated he died at a Columbia hospital after several years of declining health and a serious illness of three weeks.

He was a retired farmer who had lived in Pickens County for 40 years, and he was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Henson (Lillie) Posey of Pickens and Mrs. George (Elizabeth) Spencer of Valparaiso, IN; three sons, Ed Chastain and James Chastain, both of Pickens, and Fred Chastain of Gastonia, NC; 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Sam (Elsie) Gillespie of Pickens; and four brothers, Andy Chastain of Pickens, John Chastain of Dillard, GA, Mack Chastain of Clayton, GA, and Jim Chastain of Highlands, NC.

Funeral services: Saturday, July 6, 1963, Holly Springs Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Frank Looper, Rev. Garland Sentell,
and Rev. H.A. Newton.
