From the LDS Biographical Encyclopedia, life sketch by Lawrence Eugene Holladay: ANN HOTTON MATTHEWS HOLLADAY wife of Thomas Wiley Middleton Holladay was born Dec. 15, 1838 in Neshoba Co. Mississippi the daughter of Joseph Lazerus Matthews a plantation overseer and Rhoda Carroll (O'Carroll). She moved with her parents to Nauvoo in 1843 and after the exodus into Iowa and finally to Winter Quarters on the Missouri River, There in 1846 as a girl of nine she was baptized by Benjamin L. Clapp and confirmed by William Turnbull. Her father went ahead to Utah in the 1847 Brigham Young Advance company as a guide and hunter leaving the family in straitened circumstances in Winter Quarters. Upon his return they migrated to Utah in 1848 in the so-called second Mississippi Company with her parents. She accompanied her parents to San Bernardino in 1851. She married (1) in San Bernardino Marion Perkins they divorced and she Was sealed (2) to Thomas Wiley Middleton Holladay on April one 1856 at the home of C. W. Wandell, Amasa Lyman performing the ceremony. She and Thomas were re-sealed in the Salt Lake Endowment house on Sept 27, 1862. The family settled in Santaquin (Summit) in 1861 where they lived for 23 years. In 1879 they along with others from the south end of Utah Valley got "Arizona Fever" and moved south, first to Forest Dale in Apache Co. and Later to Matthews in the Gila Valley of what was then Pima Co. Thomas' older brother John Daniel Holladay had a contract to supply ties and track grading for the Atlantic and Pacific RR which was crossing Arizona and New Mexico at the time and this work attracted some of the Holladays and their friends. After arriving in Pima Arizona Ann Holladay's skills as a nurse were in demand and she was called to cases from Bowie to Clifton and around the Valley towns. She bore ten children and raised several grandchildren. Her last home was in Pima, Arizona next to her daughter Rhoda Holladay Green Rhoner and acrosss the street from son Charles Eugene. She separated from Thomas Wiley around 1914. She never wanted to be a burden and lived on her own where she kept her house immaculate and fed some of her grandchildren their lunch at the school noon hour. She died on January 10, 1925 after a short illness. Her Children are: George Thomas 1857-1924 (md Cynthia Alvaretta Jones); John Joseph died in infancy;Daniel Wiley 1860-1910 (md Harriet Ann Colvin and Eliza Colvin); Julia Ann Clark 1862-1926 (md William Asby Clark); David Archibald died as infant; Charles Eugene 1865-1895 Md.
