James W. Rust was born in Kentucky in 1819, a son of John Rust (1794-1833) and Grace Walters Rust (1794-1833).
He married Matilda Cessna on 6 Feb 1842 in Hardin county, Kentucky. Their children were John W. Rust (1842-1888); Sarah C. Rust (1844-1845); Clayton C. Rust (1847-1921); Margaret Cessna Rust Crady (1849-1915); and Francis Marion Rust (1852-1907).
James can be traced in the various LaRue County Census reports 1850, 1860, 1870, but did not appear in the 1880 Census. His exact death date is not known other than it was after 1870 and before 1880. He must be buried here with other members of his family. His wife, 2 sons, and 1 daughter are buried here, some as early as 1845 and continuing thru 1921.
On 9 Oct 1861 he enlisted in company A, Kentucky 8th Infantry Regiment. Promoted to Full Sergeant on 22 Sep 1862, Confederate Kentucky Volunteers during the Civil War between the states.
