El Paso Journal, 28 May 1910:
Last Sunday afternoon at about 6 o'clock occurred the death of Mrs. Bridget Crowe, one of Kappa's oldest residents, after an extended illness. For several days her death had been expected at any time. Deceased was born in County Mayo, Ireland, in 1832, and was thus 78 years of age at the time of her demise. She had resided in Kappa for 40 years.
When a girl of about 13 she came to America, and in 1856 was married to John Crowe in Virginia, and they came to Illinois during that year. Mr. Crowe was killed in Kappa April 2, 1872, by Addison Allen, the later stabbing Mr. Crowe at a school election in that village, the tragedy being the result of Mr. Crowe's attempt to part Allen and a man named Doran, who were quarreling over the contest.
Mr. Crowe was foreman of the Illinois Central Railroad at Hudson for about 10 years, when they moved to the home farm, where the widow has since resided. Mrs. Crowe was the mother of five children: Thomas Crowe, Paxton; Michael, John, Hubert and Miss Bridget, all of Kappa.
Funeral services were held from St. Mary's Church, El Paso, conducted by Father J. H. Quinlan. The remains were laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery north of the city.
