Carrie was born Caroline Shirk to Mathias and Anna(Weaver) Shirk in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. When she died she was the oldest living person in Canton.

A telegram announcing the death of Mrs. Caroline Cunningham at Canton, Ohio, was received here yesterday. The deceased was nearly ninety-four years of age at the time of her death, and will be remembered as the estimable lady, who for many years made her home in this city with with her daughter, Mrs. J.M. Peters, and family. She was also the mother of O.W. Cunningham, of Goshen. Though advanced in years Mrs. Cunningham had been in very fair health until of late, and on Saturday night she was forced to succumb to the infirmities of age. The funeral was held at Canton today.
