Alton Lloyd Hatch, 93 of Bancroft passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Alton was born December 25, 1923 to Lee and Beatrice Hatch in Alexander, Idaho. They were blessed with twins, Alton and Sister named Afton.

Alton spent his early years working various farming jobs in Chesterfield. He attended North Gem High School and graduated in 1943. Soon after being called to serve in the United States Air Force in 1943, Alton was a member of he 8th Air Force 94 Bomber group. He was a ball Turret Gunner on a B-17 bomber flying enough missions to be a member of the Lucky Bastard Club. After leaving the Airforce for a short time, he worked in the Wind River Range as a Range Rider through the Montana and Wyoming area. After returning to the Military, his duty was a squadron supply officer, Airforce police officer, administrative officer and a recorder on two military boards. He achieved the rank of First Lieutenant.

After leaving the Airforce he attended Utah State receiving a B.S. in Agriculture with graduate studies in Florida. Alton was a school teacher for 3 years in Bay County Florida. Soon after becoming an owner and operator of a motel in Panama City Florida, he adopted three children, after the sudden death of his sister Afton, Glen, Lavere and Barbara.

Then deciding to go into the Charter boat business Alton built a 45’ Yacht in his front yard he received 100-ton license from the Cast Guard. Alton was also a member of the Carpenter and Millwright Local Union.

Soon after returning to Idaho he worked at various construction companies and soon started a small concrete business on the side. Alton started working for Monsanto in Soda Springs in 1965 and retired after 20 years.

Alton met a very special lady Emma Jean Christensen and they were married on January 28, 1966. They would go on to be together for 51 years having 3 kids, Kathy Lyn Capell, Nick Hatch and Molly Jean Hatch.

He was active in various areas of the community, Mayor of Bancroft for 8 years, Caribou County Commissioner for 6 years, and sold snowmobiles out of his shop for 12 years. He also had a real-estate license. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and a 32 degree Mason Shriner.

Alton is survived by two brothers Tom (Berniece) Hatch, Lloyd Hatch and children, Kathy Capell, Nick Hatch, Molly Hatch and grandchildren, Ashlee Blackburn, Joshua(Angie) Capell, Joe Capell, Jed (Nicole) Capell and great-grandchild Kevin Capell. He was preceded in death by his wife Emma Jean Hatch.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. at the Bancroft Cemetery with Military Honors. Family will visit with friends on Wednesday evening 6-8 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home.
