"After a lingering illness extending over many months, death came Wednesday night to the relief of Thomas Chilton Butler at the home of his brother-in-law C. H. Borders. Consumption had marked him for its victim, but he fought hard against its ravages until convinced that the struggle was useless. He was thirty-two years of age and unmarried. A few days before his death he was happily converted and spent much of his time thereafter in urging his associates to prepare for death before the eleventh hour.
The funeral will take place from the South Methodist Church at one o'clock to-day, and the burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
A sad feature in this case was that a young lady to whom he was betrothed did not arrive here until after his death. he had repeatedly expressed the hope that he might live to see her."
