Ms. Barbara Janet Brown, of Somerset, Kentucky and former native of Magoffin County, Kentucky was born on February 23, 1934 in Swampton, Kentucky and departed this life on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at her residence in the presence of her family. Barbara was the daughter of the late Seldon and Elsie Maxine Carpenter Arnett.
Ms. Brown is survived by two daughters; Marcia J. (and Steve) Tucker of Somerset, KY., Maureen J. (and Tim) Gallagher of Morrison, TN., two sons; Michael J. (and Angela) Brown of Versailles, KY., and James S.A. (and Frances) Brown of Bradenton, FL. Barbara also leaves behind one sister; Selma Ruth (and John) Carpenter of Salyersville, KY., and the following grandchildren; Stephanie Nicole Tucker, Joshua Daniel Brown, Megan Faith Gallagher, Timothy Michael Gallagher Jr., Max Morgan Gallagher, and Aleczander Nicoli Gilder. Also surviving are two great grandchildren; Joshua Ryan Tucker, and Eric Stephen Tucker and several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins who will mourn her passing.
Ms. Brown was preceded in death by her parents and former husband Lewis J. Brown Jr. and one granddaughter; Erica Dawn Tucker.
Ms. Brown attended Berea Foundation School and was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Somerset, KY. Barbara was the Director of Salyersville National Bank since 1999 and was retired from the Magoffin County School System in the Adult Literacy Program as Assistant Director. She was an Eastern Star, and a member of the Magoffin County Homemakers Association, and also a member of the Wesley Foundation. Barbara was also a very dedicated Kentucky Wildcats fan.
Funeral services for Ms. Barbara Janet Brown will be held on Friday, June 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Wilcoxson officiating. Burial will follow, at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
The family of Ms. Brown will receive friends on Thursday, June 26, 2008 from 6-9p.m. at the Pulaski Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the First United Methodist Church, the First Baptist Church, and to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
