Polish Explorer and Geologist. He was born in Gluszyna (then part of South Prussia, today part of Nowe Miasto, Poznañ), Greater Poland. In his work, he travelled widely in North and South America, Cuba, Tahiti and the South Sea Islands, and New Zealand. He died of liver cancer at the age of 76. Originally interred at Kensal Green Cemetery in London, England, in 1997 his remains were transferred to the Crypt of Merit at St. Wojciech Church in his home town of Poznan, Poland.
