Robert W. Smith
Robert W. smith, 67, 23 W. Campbell, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Smith was born Dec. 11, 1930, at Fort Scott, the son of Wesley O. and Ruth G. Burke Smith.
On Oct. 21, 1950, he was married to Betty J. Maxwell. They lived in Fort Scott for a short time before moving to Iola. He worked at various jobs before earning a degree in education from Pittsburg State University in 1974. He taught several years at Blue Mound and Zillah School east of Humboldt. He then worked five years at Midland Brake before teaching again in area schools as a substitute.
On Aug. 8, 1983, he married Geneva Malloy Kleypas.
He was a member of the Harvest Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva, of the home; five daughters, Rema Cole, Gas, Amy Helman and Sharon Sutterby, both of Iola, Kathleen Wilson, Fenton, Mo., and Karen DuFrain, Wellsville; four step-sons, John Kleypas, Abesville, Mo., Rick Kleypas and Curtis Kleypas, both of Branson, Mo., and Gary Kleypas, Girard, 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services wil be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel. Pastor Kyle Guenther will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
