Helen Lucille Knight left us in the early morning hours of March 5, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Eureka, Montana on 5/20/28 to Tom and Lucille Burch, she was the second of nine children. Helen and her family moved to Tacoma in 1977. She went to Mr. Lees Beauty School and as a stylist owned and operated her own salon for many years. She retired from Clover Park Voc. School in 1989 after 23 years as a cosmetology instructor.
Helen and Andy lived in Tacoma for many years and for a period of time held dual residency with a home in Hoodsport. They moved back to University Place where they currently reside. Helen enjoyed Mariners baseball, buying Lotto tickets, gambling trips to Reno with her sisters, sharing her time and wisdom with her grandchildren, crossword puzzles and was always ready for a game of pinochle. She gardened alongside her husband Andy, and baked homemade goodies for all to enjoy. Friends and family most appreciated her sense of humor, wit and loving heart.
She leaves behind a husband of 37 years, Andy, daughter Vicki Kitts of Tacoma, son Larry Johnson (Janet) of San Diego, son Ken Knight (Sandy) of Anchorage, daughter Luana Rosman (Bill) of Tacoma, daughter Patty Knight of Seattle, daughter Alana Dunn of Friday Harbor, daughter Laurie Knight of Tacoma, son Peter Knight (Rhonda) of Anchorage; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Beatrice Helton of North Carolina, Patty Chalcraft of Oregon, Rose Bond of Tacoma, Thelma Ness of North Dakota, and Carol Pinson of Montana.
Helen is preceded in death by her son Barry, parents Tom and Lucille, sister Jean and brothers, Jerry and Tommy.
Funeral services are Saturday, March 10th at 10AM, Mountain View Funeral Home, Garden Chapel. Viewing Friday from 1PM to 9PM.
