YORK Charles L. Markey, 90, died, Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services Dallastown. He was the husband of the late Virginia I. (Hilt) Markey . Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Home, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, with Elder John Smeltzer, of Yorkana Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, officiating. A viewing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in New Fairview Brethren Church Cemetery. Mr. Markey was born January 4, 1917, in Spry, a son of the late Clarence A. and Emma J. (Ness) Markey. Mr. Markey was employed by the New York Wire Company as a machinist/welder for 61 years before his retirement in 1997. From the time he was a young man Charles belonged to Rock Oak Hunting Camp in Centre County where he enjoyed both hunting and fishing. He was also pitcher in the Susquehanna Baseball League with the Spry Cornhuskers. He is survived by one son, Michael D. Markey of Red Lion; two daughters, Virginia L. Smith of Red Lion and Sandy E. Golden of Coplay, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Markey was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Steffee; a granddaughter, Michelle Getz; one brother; and two sisters.
