Jacob Phares Davis, 81, died late Thursday afternoon at the Union County Home in Liberty where he had been a resident for the past eight years. He was a native of Fayette County and lifelong resident in Fayette and Union Counties. He had been with the State Highway Department from 1919 to 1938 and was Union County Highway Department Superintendent from 1933 to 1939. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Lyonsville. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Merle Shepler of Liberty and Mrs. Jack Wilson of Balboa, Canal Zone; seven grandchildren and several greatgrandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Sherwood of Anderson, Mrs. Clara Seller of Milton and Mrs. Ethel Carmichael of Fort Wayne; one brother, Frank of Liberty. Services for Mr. Davis will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Baker Funeral Home here. Rev. Arthur Fields will officiate, with burial in Dunlapsville Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
