Carolyn V. Colley passed away at home on August 23, 2017 at the age of 91. She was born in Greenville, South Carolina on July 21, 1926 to Marie Parris and Henry Gaydon. She is preceded in death by her parents and step-father, James D. Adams, and her eldest son, Thomas A. Colley. Carolyn is survived by her sons David and wife Pam, Scott and wife Zen, and Drake and wife Jennifer. She is also survived by her grandchildren Chris, William, Ethan, Jessica and Tanner. Survivors also include her sister Doris Jones, niece Carol Shrewsberry, and nephew Steven Jones.

Carolyn was a special woman who was fiercely independent with an extremely strong work ethic. Carolyn raised four sons while starting her career with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas in 1962. Carolyn retired after 37 years of service with BCBS at the age of 74. She joined BCBS in 1962 as a secretary in the marketing division. Carolyn had previously worked as an Administrative Assistant to the Commanding General for Air Force Security Service in San Antonio, Texas. She had also worked in Washington, DC with the civil service. In 1972, she became secretary to the executive vice president of BCBS. She became an officer of BCBS in 1979 serving as assistant corporate secretary and executive assistant to the president. In 1981 she was elected corporate secretary. In her new position as Vice President of Corporate Affairs, she worked closely with the board of directors and executive staff. In her spare time, she obtained an associate's degree from Richland Junior College in 1991 and continued her studies at the University of Texas at Dallas.

Carolyn loved her family with all her heart and devoted her life to all of us. Grandma even learned how to use an iPhone and iPad to keep in touch with her grandchildren.

Carolyn was an avid reader and worked three newspaper crossword puzzles daily. Carolyn always made the holidays special and in particular Christmas. Even as her own boys grew up, Christmas morning was like being a child all over again. In addition to the holidays, annual summer vacations at South Padre Island were a family tradition. Summers at the beach with our mom were some of the most enjoyable times of our lives.

Interment services were held at Sparkman/Hillcrest on August 26, 2017. The family requests you consider a donation to the American Cancer Society in Carolyn's memory.
