Published in The Paducah Sun, Paducah, McCracken Co., Ky. - Patricia "Patsy" Carolyn McWaters, 86, of Virginia Beach, formerly of Paducah, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 28, 2014, surrounded by her husband, Joe, and her family.

Patsy was born on March 7, 1928, the youngest of three children to John and Julia Dowdy of Paducah, Kentucky. In 1948, she married her high school sweetheart, Joe McWaters. For the last 66 years, they have shared in the joys of life by each other's side, creating a large family as they had always wanted.

Patsy and her husband were blessed with four children - Brenda, Joe Jr., Jeff and his wife, Cindy, and Tim and his wife, Lynne. Their blessings continued with the arrival of each of their five grandchildren, Jason, Lisa, Megan, Hunter, and Taylor; followed by five great-grandchildren, Connor, Josh, Noah, Micah and Emma, all of whom survive. Her sister Evelyn and her brother John predeceased her.

Patsy attended high school at St. Mary's Academy, followed by two years at Nazareth College, graduating from Murray State University. She was a dedicated teacher of third-graders for several years, and also spent many years in medical office practice management. She was the past president of the Junior Women's League and Charity League, both in Paducah, Kentucky.

For the past 42 years, she has dedicated her life to her passion - working with those suffering and recovering from drug and alcohol addiction.

Patsy's magnetic personality and compassionate demeanor made it so that she became a friend to everyone she met. She led a faithful life and was an active member of Star of the Sea Parish. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who dedicated herself to her family. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed by all.

A funeral Mass was held at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Virginia Beach at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2014.
