Mary's parents Thomas and Julia Ann Harderman Bacon, natives of Jefferson County, Tennessee, emigrated to Texas in 1835. They first settled in San Augustine County, but in 1839 moved to Wells Prairie, Bastrop County, and afterward to Travis County, where Mr. Bacon died in 1851, and Mrs. Bacon in 1859. Mary Bacon married Wayman Wells on March 4, 1848. They had nine children: Amanda, wife of George LaKuc; Sally Boyd, died at age seventeen; Julia Ann, died at age four; David L. and Martin Thomas, died in infancy; Peter C, of Elgin, Bastrop County, married Katie Walling and they had five children; George Henry, married Annie Anderson and resided in El Paso, Texas; J. M.; and Wayman Thomas.
