James Lloyd Dickey, 75, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2017 at his home. He was the husband of Mary Ann (Dvorak) Dickey. The couple married on May 8, 1971 and recently celebrated 46 years of marriage.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road in York. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Born September 11, 1941 in Sewickley, PA, Jim was a son of the late George Otto and Frances Marie (Dougherty) Dickey. He graduated from Moon Township High School. He then went on to earn his BS Degree from IUP and his MBA from Penn State University. Upon graduation from IUP, Jim was commissioned 2nd LT in the United States Army where he served for over 20 years, retiring with rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His Army career included tours of duty throughout Europe, Asia and Saudi Arabia. He was awarded multiple medals of service. Jim served from 1967-1969 in Vietnam, and was most proud of his service with the 5th Special Forces Group in Vietnam. After retiring from the Army, he worked at Buchart Horn Engineering Company in York for several years. He then established a home business that sold specialty products for sporting dogs. Jim was an avid hunter-fisherman all his life and will affectionately remembered by his family and friends for his enthusiasm, pie parties and his neighborhood program for young people, Good News University. James will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, Mary Ann, Mr. Dickey is survived by a brother, George Edward Dickey (Susan) of Baltimore, MD; a nephew, Paul Dickey (Cindy) of Denver, CO; and several cousins; and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be sent to The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation that supports working dogs for Police and Fire Departments throughout the country.
